Evolution ofTelecentre

The success of Gatuman eBario saw the replication of the ISITI telecentre model in several other sites in Malaysia. This replication also marked further improvements to the model, and telecentre 2.0 was introduced to the communities of Buayan (2006), Long Lamai (2009), Larapan (2010) and Ba’Kelalan (2010).

With similar technological features as the telecentre 1.0, these telecentres were equipped with laptops instead of computers. The telecentre also supported services that were specifically catered to the needs of the community so that its sustainability would be ensured. With this strategy, the full potential of the telecentre could be tapped, hence leaving a positive socio-economic and political impact on the community.
