WorkPackage 5
With no proper structure training provided for staff' capacity building resulted in high Pusat Internet staff turnover rate. This was managed by providing work-package 5 which is for professional capacity building. The main objective is to improve knowledge of Pusat Internet staff for capacity development and technical assistance in order to bridge the rural-urban digital divide. A need analysis was conducted, assets of community and potential concerns were identified. Hence, several modules were constructed for professional capacity building which includes Orientation Workshop, Community Engagement, and Designing Training Modules for Community.

The main purpose of this orientation training was to welcome the newly hired Pusat Internet Managers and Assistant Managers, to introduce the various Pusat Internet programmes and to provide participants with pertinent information needed to manage the centres. The orientation allows participants to familiarize themselves with the objective of the programme and their role as Managers and Assistant Managers. Additionally, the first quarter training aimed to enhance the knowledge on writing effective emails, logo designs as well as ethical behaviour in the workplace for the participants.

The main purpose of this training was to train the Pusat Internet staff on community participation and engagement methods which ensures that Pusat Internet projects succeed. Specifically, the relationship between the staff of Pusat Internet and community is necessary for any project; without this cooperation, the proverbial white elephant project will result. This training challenged participants’ notions of 'working for community', through encouraging action-based participatory practices that are transdisciplinary, collaborative and critically focused on the ideas of 'working with community’. The participants were also exposed to relevant methods, tools and case studies from the field and provided the opportunity to work practically on a community engagement case.

The purpose of this training was to train the Pusat Internet Managers and Assistant Managers on how to construct training modules, slides and activities based on the needs of the community. The participants were introduced to a basic and effective framework that can be used to build training modules that are suitable for overcoming the gaps in knowledge, skills and abilities of local community.
