Welcome to the Institute of Social Informatics and Technological Innovations (ISITI), where innovation meets inclusivity, and technology is harnessed for the betterment of society.
Our journey began with the groundbreaking eBario project, a testament to the transformative power of technology in connecting remote communities. Through the establishment of telecentres, we witnessed firsthand how access to information and communication technologies can catalyze socio-economic development, paving the way for sustainable progress. The success of the eBario project serves as our foundation, igniting a passion for leveraging technology to address societal challenges and contribute to the attainment of the Sustainable Development Goals.
Building upon this success, ISITI has emerged as a pioneer in revolutionizing the eBario telecentre model to cater to the diverse needs of rural communities across Malaysia. From the Penan to the Lung Bawang, from the Dusun to the Bajau, and beyond to the Orang Asli, our commitment to inclusivity drives us to tailor our solutions to the unique contexts and aspirations of each community. By embracing indigenous knowledge and collaborating closely with local stakeholders, we strive to empower communities and foster sustainable development from within.
Central to our approach is the diversity of our researchers, spanning multiple disciplines and backgrounds. This unique blend of expertise enables us to tackle complex challenges from various perspectives, fostering innovation and creativity in our solutions. Our collaboration with indigenous communities further enriches our research, grounding it in local realities and ensuring its relevance and impact.
At ISITI, we are guided by a vision of creating an inclusive knowledge society, where every voice is heard, and every individual has the opportunity to thrive. Our niche areas in community sustainability, ICT for Development, Socio-Technical Innovation, and Indigenous Knowledge Management are aligned with this vision, driving us to explore new frontiers and push the boundaries of possibility.

Through workshops and training programs, we empower marginalized groups with the skills and knowledge they need to participate meaningfully in the digital age.
